During the heat of the day, your A/C may not keep up with your
cooling demands ... That's because manufacturers design the
equipment with a maximum cooling potential of 17° on a 95°
day. So, if your home only reaches 83° in the
middle of a sunny, 100° day, it may not be because something is
wrong. The equipment simply can't keep up with the heat
outside.
To
help your A/C perform efficiently, make sure to close blinds
during the day and resist the urge to turn your thermostat down.
It won't help your home cool faster, but it will increase the
chances of your unit freezing up and becoming inoperable.
It
usually takes about an hour for a home to cool 1-2°, depending
on the humidity outside. So, if your home reaches your
thermostat's set temperature as the evening approaches and heat
outside dissipates, you'll know your system is working properly.
