There is nothing simpler or more important that you can do to prolong the life expectancy and efficiency of your equipment than to change the filter on a regular basis!  Dirty and clogged filters are responsible for a myriad of problems that can damage your system and keep you uncomfortable without heating or air conditioning.

Twice a year is the recommended minimum number of times to change one inch disposables, but even that depends on the variables of your life:

   how many people live in your home

   if you live there year round or rent it out in the summer, leaving it vacant

       during part of the year

   if you or your tenants have pets in the home

   if you or your tenants smoke in the home

   how sensitive the residents of your home are to indoor air pollutants

That being said, if remembering to change your filters is the last thing on your mind, here are a couple of things you can do to make it easier:

	buy cases of filters instead of individual ones, that way you'll always have a couple extras.
	sign up with a preventative maintenance agreement that includes maintenance checks. Not only are these
	checks required to maintain your manufacturer's warranty, but you'll have a trained technician at your home twice a year to change filters for you, answer questions while they're looking at your equipment and even show you where your filters are and what sizes you need to buy.
