Thermostats are divided into 2 categories: non-programmable and programmable.

A non-programmable thermostat (stat) is basically "set-it and forget-it". Non-programmable stats come in digital and non-digital versions. They are simple to operate, but only give you the most basic control. Digital ones have large numbers and lighted displays for easy reading. A programmable stat can be set to adjust the temperature in your home according to your schedule.   These stats are more complicated to get up and running. Digital displays are lighted and easier to read. Once programmed, they can save money on energy bills. They turn the temperature up or down according to your schedule.
