Flags for Heros

May 31, 2021 – Memorial Day Lord Baltimore Elementary School - Ocean View, DE

Over $12,000 was raised for Southern Sussex Rotary’s 7th annual Flags for Heroes, the culmination of months of fundraising leading up to Memorial Day. 133 locally sponsored heroes were named by 38th District Representative Ron Gray and Delaware State Treasurer Colleen Davis during the Presentation of Heroes. In addition, during the event, attendees enjoyed patriotic music from the IRHS Brass Ensemble and a speech by special guest Lieutenant Colonel John Fisher. The ceremony was also supported by Cub Scout Pack 280 and Boy Scout Troop 281. Southern Sussex Rotary will raise flags again for the 20th anniversary of 9/11. More information about Southern Sussex Rotary and the donations made from this event can be found online: SouthernSussexRotary.org and Facebook.com/SouthernSussexRotary

Don’t Chuck Your Shucks 2019

15 members of the Custom Mechanical team volunteered for the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, bagging oyster shells from their “Don’t Chuck Your Shucks” program! We filled 500 bags that will be used in living reef, bulkhead, and other projects this spring.

Little Free Library

LIttle Free Library

Custom Mechanical supports “Little Free Library”, whose mission is to promote a sense of community, reading for children, literacy for adults and libraries around the world. Little Free Libraries are structures that contain constantly changing collections of books donated and shared by people of all ages and backgrounds. You can find them in front yards, parks, and gardens among other places. Each ‘library’ holds 20 -100 books. It is a free book exchange in the spirit of “Take a book, Return a book”. There can be a wide variety of subject matter available at any given time such as kids’ books, cook books, young adult, travel, adult best sellers and more. We have a Little Free Library in our office, so feel free to stop by any time to drop off a book and pick up a new one to read!
